Giuseppe Arcimboldo
Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1537 - 1593) was born in Milan. He became famous for his composite portraits showing heads made up of smaller objects such as flowers or animals.
These paintings may appear rather ordinary or unsophisticated now, but remember that these were made centuries ago. They were rather revolutionary at the time. An image composed of smaller objects is also called an arcimboldesque or archimboldesque, after the inventor.
His name is also spelled Guiseppe Archimboldo.
